Mentone is a census-designated place located in San Bernardino County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 7,803.
Geography
Mentone is located at 34°3'53" North, 117°7'13" West (34.064663, -117.120242)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.2 km² (6.2 mi²). 16.1 km² (6.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.16% is water. California State Highway 38 serves as its main street, called Mentone Boulevard as one enters Mentone from Redlands, then Mill Creek Road as one leaves the city proper and heads north toward Angelus Oaks.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,803 people, 2,757 households, and 1,891 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 483.6/km² (1,252.7/mi²). There are 2,946 housing units at an average density of 182.6/km² (473.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 74.47% White, 4.72% African American, 1.10% Native American, 2.97% Asian, 0.21% Pacific Islander, 12.43% from other races, and 4.10% from two or more races. 25.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,757 households out of which 39.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.33.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.7% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,225, and the median income for a family is $47,786. Males have a median income of $40,888 versus $29,495 for females.
