cy:Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru The National Assembly for Wales is composed of 60 members known as AMs or assembly members (in Welsh: ACau or Aelodau'r Cynulliad). 40 are elected from winner-take-all constituencies on a single member plurality basis. 20 are elected in regions elected through proportional representation.

The First Minister of the National Assembly and his Cabinet comprises the Welsh Assembly Government.

The last election was on May 1, 2003.

The current party distribution in the National Assembly for Wales:

Note: Peter Law was elected as the Labour assembly member for Blaenau Gwent in 2003. In 2005, in protest at the decision of the Labour Party nationally to impose an all-woman shortlist for the Parliamentary election, he successfully stood as an independent candidate for the UK Parliament against the Labour Party's own candidate, and consequently was automatically expelled from the Labour Party. He now sits in both the Assembly and Parliament as an Independent.
