The Medinilla (Medinilla magnifica in the family Melastomataceae) is a bush that blooms with light purple to vivid pink flowers. Some varieties also exhibit orange flowers. It is native to the Philippines. The genus was named in 1820 after governor J. de Medinilla of the Mariana Islands.
