McDonough is a city located in Henry County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,493. Census Estimates of 2003 indicate a population of 11,721. The city is the county seat of Henry CountyTemplate:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.2 km² (7.8 mi²). 20.1 km² (7.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.51% water.
History
Named for naval officer Thomas McDonough and founded in 1823.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,493 people, 3,069 households, and 2,102 families residing in the city. The population density is 422.6/km² (1,093.8/mi²). There are 3,234 housing units at an average density of 160.9/km² (416.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 61.38% White, 34.30% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.78% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 3.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,069 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.2% are married couples living together, 18.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males.
