Barenaked Ladies Chronology | ||
Stunt (1998) | Maroon (2000) | Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits 1991-2001 (2001) |
Maroon (2000) is the sixth full-length album by Barenaked Ladies and their fifth studio album. The follow-up to 1998's Stunt, Maroon reached the Top 5 in Canada and the US, selling a million units in America alone. With keyboardist Kevin Hearn's leukemia battle won, and with an instinct to downplay the jokey reputation they were so known for, BNL deliberately created a more serious and sophisticated album. It's probable that the lesser sales of Maroon were a result of this artistic decision.
Still the album had its share of famous songs: "Pinch Me", "Too Little Too Late" and "Falling For the First Time."
Tracks recorded for this album but left off of the finished record include: "Powder Blue" (appears on the US "Pinch Me" single), "Inline Bowline" (appears on the Aussie "Pinch Me" single), "Born Human" (appears on the Aussie "Pinch Me" single, also appears on the new Kevin Hearn and Thinbuckle album Night Light), "Half a Heart" (unreleased) and "Hidden Sun" (a song written by Kevin when he was in the hospital; appears as a hidden track after "Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel").
