Marne is a département in northeastern France named after the Marne River, who's watershed is largely found in the department. The capital or Préfecture of the Marne is Châlons-en-Champagne (formerly known as Châlons-en-Marne). Regional capitals sous-préfectures are Epernay, Reims, Sainte-Menehould, and Vitry-le-François.

Marne was also the site of two battles. The first battle was the turning point of World War I, fought in 1914. The second battle was fought four years later, in 1918.
