Congressman Mark Green
Mark Andrew Green (born June 1 1960) is an American politician and a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the Eighth Congressional District of Wisconsin (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/wi08_109.gif)).
Green was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Jeremy and Elizabeth Green, immigrants from South Africa and Great Britain, respectively. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1983 and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987.
Green served for six years in the Wisconsin State Assembly before being elected to the House in 1998. He currently serves as Assistant Majority Whip.
Green has announced he will not seek re-election to Congress in 2006 and will instead run for Governor of Wisconsin in against current Governor Jim Doyle, a Democrat. He has already transferred funds from his federal campaign fund to a state fund in preparation for the race. [1] (http://www.gmtoday.com/news/politics/state/topstory177.asp) The Wisconsin Democratic Party charged that Republicans in the state legislature adjusted the rules about such transfers to give Green an unfair advantage over all other candidates.
