Mark Francois

Mark Gino Francois (born 1965 in London) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He has been Member of Parliament for Rayleigh since 2001. He is a whip. Since September 2004, he has been Shadow Minister for Economic Affairs.
Before serving in Parliament, he served for four years on Basildon Council in the early 1990s. He stood for Brent East during the 1997 general election, and lost to Ken Livingstone (who later became the Mayor of London).
He was born in London in 1965, and attended Bristol and London Universities where he read for bachelors and masters degrees in History and War Studies respectively.
He served as an officer the Territorial Army, including with the local Royal Anglian Regiment.
He served on the staff of [[Margaret Thatcher\\, and later worked in a political consulting firm. Prior to the General Election of 2001, he worked as a self-employed consultant.
