Marenisco Township, Michigan

Marenisco Township is a township in Gogebic County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,051.
The unincorporated community of Marenisco is within the township on the Presque Isle River near the junction of U.S. Highway 2 and Michigan State Highway 64 at Template:Coor dms. Wakefield is about 15 miles northwest and Watersmeet about 27 miles southeast on US 2.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 844.1 km² (325.9 mi²). 805.1 km² (310.9 mi²) of it is land and 38.9 km² (15.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.61% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,051 people, 264 households, and 186 families residing in the township. The population density is 1.3/km² (3.4/mi²). There are 663 housing units at an average density of 0.8/km² (2.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 68.13% White, 27.31% African American, 1.14% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.33% from other races, and 1.71% from two or more races. 2.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 264 households out of which 25.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.84.
In the township the population is spread out with 12.7% under the age of 18, 17.7% from 18 to 24, 40.0% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 244.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 279.3 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $33,438, and the median income for a family is $36,136. Males have a median income of $33,750 versus $22,917 for females.
