Marcus Junius Silanus Torquatus

Marcus Junius Silanus was a great, great-grandson of Augustus. He was also was the second cousin to the Emperor Nero.

Marcus was born after, the death of Augustus in 14ad. His mother Aemilia Lepida was the great grand-daughter of Augustus. Aemilia's mother was Vipsania Julia, a grand daughter to Caesar Augustus and Aemilia's father was Lucius Aemilius Pallus who was a great-nephew of the Triumvir Marcus Aemilius Lepidus. Marcus' father and namesake was a member of the Junian family. A noble and influential clan, involved in Roman Politics since the republic.

He became consul in 46ad. Before November 54ad, while Asian Governor, he was poisoned. Without precautions a knight and a former slave, administered poison while Marcus was at dinner. Agrippina the Younger ordered this, thinking that Marcus would avenge her for the suicide of his brother Lucius. This occurred without Nero's knowledge.

Previous Emperors despised him and thought he was lazy. Marcus is the father of Lucius Junius Silanus Torquatus II.
