Maple Valley was officially incorporated on August 31, 1997.

Maple Valley is located at 47°21'58" North, 122°2'41" West (47.366160, -122.044692)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.5 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.04% water.

The main bodies of water in the city limits are Lake Wilderness, Lake Lucerne, and part of Pipe Lake. The Cedar River passes through unincorporated King County very near by.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 14,209 people, 4,809 households, and 3,952 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,010.3/km² (2,617.9/mi²). There are 4,922 housing units at an average density of 350.0/km² (906.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.62% White, 1.11% African American, 0.66% Native American, 2.46% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 1.36% from other races, and 3.64% from two or more races. 3.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,809 households out of which 51.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.9% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.8% are non-families. 13.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.26.

In the city the population is spread out with 33.8% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 38.5% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 4.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $67,159, and the median income for a family is $70,008. Males have a median income of $50,623 versus $34,097 for females. The per capita income for the city is $24,859. 2.6% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.4% of those under the age of 18 and 3.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
