Manheim is a town located in Herkimer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,171.
The Town of Mannheim is in the southwestern part of the county.
Geography
The eastern town line is the border of Fulton County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 76.8 km² (29.7 mi²). 75.2 km² (29.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.09% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,171 people, 1,297 households, and 885 families residing in the town. The population density is 42.2/km² (109.2/mi²). There are 1,480 housing units at an average density of 19.7/km² (51.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.86% White, 0.35% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,297 households out of which 30.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.92.
