Mallow

Mallow is the common name of several closely related genera of plant in the family Malvaceae:
- Malva (Mallow)
- Althaea (Marsh mallow)
- Callirhoe (Poppy mallow)
- Kosteletzkya (Seashore mallow)
- Lavatera (Tree mallow or rose mallow)
- Malvaviscus - Turk's cap mallow
- Sidalcea (Greek mallow)
- Sphaeralcea - Globemallow
Plants of the genus Malva are herbaceous perennials; the other genera include annuals, herbaceous perennials, sub-shrubs, shrubs, and small trees (including hibiscus). Several mallows are of horticultural merit. Some have other economic uses, although none is a major crop plant.
- Mallow may also refer to the Malvi language of the Malwa region of India
- Mallow is also the family name of a French family that migrated to Great Britain in the 1700's, then to the United States in the 1800's.
- Mallow was also an oracle in Greece. See Amphilochus for more information.
- Mallow, County Cork is a place in County Cork, in southern Ireland.
- Mallow is a playable character in Super Mario RPG, so called for his resemblance to a marshmallow.
- Marshmallows were once (but are no longer) made from the marsh mallow.
