M22 Locust
|
The M22 Locust was an American design of airmobile light tank used during World War II by the British forces.
History
Built to be airmobile, a matching transport was never developed before the changes in tank design made it outdated. As the British had the Hamilcar glider, they took the vehicles over, and the British 6th Airborne Division used it in 1945 crossing the Rhine in Operation Varsity. The designation "Locust" was added by the British. Some were given to Egypt after the war.
