Lyonsdale is a town located in Lewis County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,273.
The Town of Lyonsdale is in the southeast part of the county.
Geography
The west town line is the Black River. The east town line is the border of Herkimer County, New York, and the south town line is the border of Oneida County, New York. Part of the town is in the Adirondack State Park.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 181.6 km² (70.1 mi²). 178.2 km² (68.8 mi²) of it is land and 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.84% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,273 people, 468 households, and 336 families residing in the town. The population density is 7.1/km² (18.5/mi²). There are 703 housing units at an average density of 3.9/km² (10.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.19% White, 0.86% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 468 households out of which 36.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.11.
