Karl Frederik Lukas Moodysson (born January 17, 1969) is a Swedish film writer and director. He has three children with his wife Coco.
Born in Malmö, Sweden, Moodysson grew up as an outcast, expressing himself through poetry. By the time he was 23 he had written five poetry collections and a novel. He decided to move to film directing to produce less introvertedly and, after studying at Dramatiska Institutet of Stockholm, directed three short films before beginning work on his feature film productions.
His directorial breakthrough came with Fucking Åmål (in English editions titled Show me love), a classical love story, however set in the small and boring Swedish town of Åmål, and with one lesbian and one bisexual girl in the main roles. The film was a huge domestic success both with the Swedish cinema-goers and with the critics. It won four Guldbagge Awards, including best film, best direction and best script.
Moodysson is an outspoken left wing socialist, feminist and Christian, traits that has become more and more pronounced in his works. The mainly Russian language film Lilya 4-ever from 2002 deals with trafficking and forced prostitution.
