Lower Allen is a census-designated place located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,619.
Geography
Lower Allen is located at 40°13'41" North, 76°54'8" West (40.227990, -76.902305)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,619 people, 3,031 households, and 1,851 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,092.1/km² (2,827.7/mi²). There are 3,131 housing units at an average density of 516.6/km² (1,337.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.32% White, 2.55% African American, 0.06% Native American, 1.89% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 1.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,031 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% are non-families. 34.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.73.
