Louise is a census-designated place located in Wharton County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 977.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.2 km² (6.6 mi²). 17.2 km² (6.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 977 people, 342 households, and 255 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 56.8/km² (147.1/mi²). There are 390 housing units at an average density of 22.7/km² (58.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 78.81% White, 5.42% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 14.12% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 36.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 342 households out of which 37.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.37.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $27,750, and the median income for a family is $33,750. Males have a median income of $30,272 versus $17,159 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $15,442. 15.3% of the population and 10.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.2% of those under the age of 18 and 5.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
