Long Valley, New Jersey

Long Valley is a census-designated place located in Morris County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,818.

Geography

Long Valley is located at 40°47'12" North, 74°46'35" West (40.786728, -74.776516)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.2 km² (4.7 mi²). 12.2 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. However, this is incorrect as there are several bodies of water, including several man-made lakes used for agriculture and the small Raritan river.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,818 people, 654 households, and 502 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 148.7/km² (385.4/mi²). There are 674 housing units at an average density of 55.1/km² (142.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.36% White, 0.66% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 1.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 654 households out of which 36.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.0% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $79,262, and the median income for a family is $97,010. Males have a median income of $55,900 versus $42,679 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $36,711. 4.3% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.2% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
