Template:Superherobox Lockheed is a fictional character, an alien dragon in the Marvel Comics universe. He was created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum in Uncanny X-Men #166 (1983).
While fighting the Brood, he met Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat). After the X-Men defeated the Brood, Lockheed left with Kitty - leaving his fiancée, who he was due to wed the following day in the process - and has been her longtime companion. In addition to serving alongside her with the X-Men, he joined her when she founded the British superhero team, Excalibur. She dubbed him "Lockheed" after the Lockheed Corporation, since they made the SR-71 Blackbird, the model of stealth jet which the X-Men used for some time.

Appearance
Lockheed looks like a small dragon about the size of a cat. He has sharp claws and teeth and a tendency to emit smoke from his mouth.
Personality
Lockheed is very loyal to Kitty and to his stomach. Although he doesn't speak any human language (because the shape of his mouth precludes this) he can apparently quite well comprehend what is said and done around him. He evinces a humorous interpretation of events, in a 'what fools these mortals be' sense. While Lockheed sometimes tries to give the impression of being unintelligent at other times he demonstrates outstanding powers of deduction, awareness and intelligence. At times, Kitty has given the impression that she understands Lockheed completely, though whether or not a formal 'psychic bond' has ever been formed between them is unclear.
Powers
Lockheed can breathe fire with extreme intensity, and his bat-like dragon wings allow him to fly. He is also an empath, which allows him to understand humans even though he doesn't speak human languages.
