Liz Claman

Liz (Elizbeth K.) Claman, (born December 12, 1963), is the anchor of the CNBC morning program Morning Call and of the CNBC newsmagazine program Cover to Cover. She also presents short business reports for local NBC stations. Previously, Claman was co-host of the program Wake-Up Call. She has also substituted for Brian Williams when his newscast appeared on CNBC.

Education and Career

The daughter of a respected, Canadian-reared Los Angeles physician, for her early education Claman went to Phillips Academy, where she was a disc jockey for the school radio station, and to Beverly Hills High School.

Claman has a bachelor of arts degree in French from the University of California at Berkeley and has a Certificat Supérieur de Français from the Sorbonne. She has retained her fluency in the language.

Claman started out as an assistant to Paula Zahn at the Los Angeles television station KCBS-TV. From there, she went on to on-the-air reporting job at WSYX-TV (Columbus, Ohio), a morning talk show at WEWS-TV (Cleveland), and a weekend anchor postion at WHDH-TV (Boston). In 1998 she started at CNBC then based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. (CNBC is now in Englewood Cliffs.)

Claman won several local Emmy Awards.

Claman's agent is Ken Lindner & Associates.

Personal

Claman is married to an executive in the cable television industry and has two children. She lives in New Jersey.

Claman is Jewish. She is a member of the charitable organization Hadassah and has been featured in an article in that organization's magazine.

Claman is an avid public speaker. She has given talks or moderated discussions about issues regarding women and mothers in the workplace.

Miscellany

An article in the New York Times once called Claman a giant swimsuit model (http://www.matthewklam.com/nonfiction/ridingthemo.html). Claman's CNBC co-workers gave her the nickname "The Beak".

Former colleagues of Claman describe her very strong (and sometimes bawdy) off-the-air sense of humor. She once responded to a fan e-mail stating she looked like a cow with a one word e-mail reply, "Mooooo!!"
