Liz Blackman

Elizabeth Marion Blackman (born September 26, 1949) is a British politician, and member of Parliament for Erewash. She is a member of the Labour Party, and has been an MP since the 1997 election.
She has a solid background in local government, with particular experience in bringing together government and businesses to facilitate economic regeneration.
She also has a significant knowledge of education, having been headteacher of the upper school at a large comprehensive.
Ms Blackman began her progress up the political ladder when she was nominated to the Treasury select committee (replacing Diane Abbott).
She later became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon. She retained her Erewash seat in the 2001 election by a margin of 14.26% over the Conservative Party candidate
