- Jack McCall, d. 1 March 1877, by hanging, for the murder of Wild Bill Hickok.
- Thomas Egan, d. 13 July 1882, by hanging, for the murder of his wife.
- Brave Bear, d. 15 November 1882, by hanging, for murder.
- James Gilmore, d. 15 December 1882, by hanging, for murder.
- Nathaniel Thompson, d. October 1893, by hanging, for the murder of his wife.
- Jay Hicks, d. December 1893, by hanging, for murder and robbery.
- Chief Two Sticks, d. 28 December 1894, by hanging, for instigating three murders.
- Charles Brown, d. 14 July 1897, by hanging, for murder and robbery.
- Ernest Loveswar, d. 19 September 1902, by hanging, for murder.
- George Bear, d. 5 December 1902, by hanging, for murder.
- Emil Victor, d. 16 November 1909, by hanging, for murder.
- Joe Rickman, d. 1913, by hanging, for murder.
The death penalty was temporarily abolished in South Dakota between 1915 and 1939. Since 1939, only one person was executed in the state:
- George Sitts, d. 8 April 1947, by electrocution for the murders of Thomas Matthews and Dave Malcolm.
