On November 1 2004, Rogers announced an agreement to purchase two religious-oriented broadcast stations branded NOWTV: CHNU in Surrey, British Columbia, serving the Vancouver market, and the license to operate the future CIIT in Winnipeg. [1] (http://www.nowtv.ca/van/rogers_ann.asp) The purchase still requires CRTC approval.
Radio
Rogers' radio stations use a variety of on-air brands and formats. Notable brands associated with the company include Jack FM for a variety music format and The Fan for its sports stations in Toronto and Calgary. Clear FM is a smooth jazz/adult contemporary hybrid in Greater Vancouver, and an adult contemporary station in Winnipeg.
In 2004, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission awarded the company licenses to launch news/talk stations on FM frequencies in Halifax, Nova Scotia and in Saint John and Moncton, New Brunswick. Simultaneous applications by Rogers for urban Top 40 stations in each market were not approved.
