List of Canadian Leaders of the Government in the Senate
|
The ministerial office of Leader of the Government in the Senate was recognized the Great Seal of Canada on March 28 1969 and went into force on April 1 1969, Previously the position was not a ministerial office, although, with one exception, the incumbent also held a Cabinet portfolio while serving as Leader of the Government in the Senate. From 1935 until 1969 the Cabinet typically had a single Senator among its ranks with the position of minister without portfolio who also acted as Government Leader in the Senate. The position's counterpart on the Senate's Opposition bench is the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
