Lewiston is an unincorporated community located in Montmorency County, Michigan. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 990.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 22.2 km² (8.6 mi²). 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 38.39% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 990 people, 480 households, and 312 families residing in the community. The population density is 72.3/km² (187.2/mi²). There are 1,230 housing units at an average density of 89.8/km² (232.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 98.59% White, 0.10% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.61% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 480 households out of which 15.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 31.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.06 and the average family size is 2.53.
In the community the population is spread out with 15.3% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 16.6% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 33.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 55 years. For every 100 females there are 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.7 males.
