Leverett is a town located in Franklin County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,663.

History
Leverett was first settled in 1713 and was officially incorporated in 1774.
In 1985, a Buddhist monastic order called Nipponzan Myohoji erected a large monument in Leverett. This structure, known as the New England Peace Pagoda, is considered the first of its kind to be built in North America.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 59.5 km² (23.0 mi²). 59.2 km² (22.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,663 people, 632 households, and 448 families residing in the town. The population density is 28.1/km² (72.8/mi²). There are 648 housing units at an average density of 10.9/km² (28.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.31% White, 0.24% African American, 0.54% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.62% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 632 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.5% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% are non-families. 19.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 35.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.4 males.
