Lessons of Darkness (Lektionen in Finsternis) is a 1992 film by German director Werner Herzog.
An effective companion to his earlier film Fata Morgana. Herzog again perceives the desert as a landscape with its own voice. Virtually devoid of commentary (aside from a repeat of his "Sci-Fi" impressions of desert landscapes), the film concentrates on the periphery of the first Gulf War - specifically on the waste and morbid imagery of the burning oil fields. As with virtually all of Herzog's films, music is his guide to the viewer, the camera remaining predominantly static and impartial.
