Laxminarayan Ramdas

Admiral (retd.) Laxminarayan Ramdas served as India's chief of Naval Staff of the Indian navy taking the reigns on November 30, 1990. He was commissioned in the Indian navy on September 1, 1953.
A communication specialist, he was trained in the Royal Naval Staff College in the United Kingdom. He then went on to head in the Naval Academy in Cochin, Kerala.
One of his major accomplishments was the reconnaissance, interdiction of enemy vessels and bombing of East Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. At that time he held the rank of a commodore. He was decorated with the Param Vir Chakra.
He is also a keen sports person, enjoying cricket, golf and quite naturally yachting. In 2004 he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Awards for peace for his efforts in trying to demilitarise and denuclear the subcontinent.
