Lawson Heights is a census-designated place located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,339.
Geography
Lawson Heights is located at 40°17'37" North, 79°23'7" West (40.293713, -79.385312)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²). 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,339 people, 1,018 households, and 701 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 590.3/km² (1,524.4/mi²). There are 1,064 housing units at an average density of 268.5/km² (693.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.80% White, 0.21% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,018 households out of which 21.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.73.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 17.9% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 28.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.
