Law & Order: Criminal Intent
|
Law & Order: Criminal Intent (also known as Law & Order: CI, LOCI, or simply CI) is a United States crime drama television series that began in 2001. It is a spin-off of Law & Order, and is presented on the NBC and USA networks. The show takes place in the "Major Case Squad", which investigates high-profile cases.
Unlike the other shows in the Law & Order franchise, Criminal Intent gives a great amount of attention to the actions of the criminals, rather than showing almost exclusively the police and prosecution. Template:Law & Order
Cast
Law & Order: CI is noted as the only show in the L&O Franchise not to have any major casting changes; since the show's premiere in 2001, the main cast have been:
- Detective Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio), a quirky yet extraordinarily intelligent murder investigator and profiler known for his good instincts. He is an intense and intelligent man who has a college degree including units in psychology. Often, Goren's intuition turns out to be the case-breaker, rather than solid evidence, which is usually the case in the other two series. Goren once served in the Military Police in the United States Army, stationed in Germany and Korea.
- Detective Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe), a quiet, practical partner who, despite the inherent character differences between the two, always seems to mesh well with Goren.
- When Erbe went on maternity leave, her character was substituted for by Detective G. Lynn Bishop (Samantha Buck), during season 3 episodes, 5 through 11. (the 2003-2004 season)
- Captain James Deakins (Jamey Sheridan). Goren and Eames answer to Capt. Deakins.
- Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver (Courtney B. Vance), a by-the-books legal figure who often pressures Goren and Eames for additional evidence.
- On 9 February 2005, NBC announced that Chris Noth is going to join the series in the fall of 2005, reprising his role as Mike Logan from the original Law and Order. Noth will alternate with D'Onofrio as series lead, each actor appearing in 11 episodes of the 2005-2006 season. This announcement followed D'Onofrio being hospitalized for exhaustion during production of the 2004-2005 season.
- On May 24 NBC announced (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/24/people.annabella.sciorra.ap/index.html) further, that Annabella Sciorra, who recently made a guest appearance in Law & Order: Trial by Jury, joins the cast as Detective Carolyn Barek and will be partner of Mike Logan. Carolyn Barek is according to Rene Balcer, the series' executive producer, a brilliant criminal profiler who ascended from the hardscrabble streets of Brooklyn's Cobble Hill to the highest ranks of the NYPD and beyond, spending two post-9/11 years with the FBI.
