Laura Linney (born February 5, 1964) is an American actress. She has had major roles in such films as Mystic River and The Truman Show. She also played Mary Ann Singleton in the television adaptations of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City books, and had a bit part in 2002's The Laramie Project. She was nominated for a Academy Award for Best Actress in 2000 for her role in You Can Count on Me and in 2004 for her role in Kinsey. She won an Emmy Award in 2004 for her recurring role as the final love interest of Frasier Crane.
Linney was educated at the Northfield Mount Hermon School and Brown University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. Her father is the playwright Romulus Linney and her mother was a nurse.
