- Lan Yu is also the Chinese name for Orchid Island.
Lan Yu (藍宇) is a gay-themed Chinese movie by Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan in 2002. This movie is based on a popular cyber story in China called Beijing story.
Plot synopsis
The movie tells a love story between two men, set in Beijing in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The movie ends with Lanyu’s death in an accident.
It can be counted as a mainland-made movie, because most of the crew are from mainland China. Nevertheless, this movie is banned in there (see Homosexuality in China).
This movie won a lot of prizes in different movie festivals in Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. (To be added)
