Lamech

Lamech or Lémech (לֶמֶךְ / לָמֶךְ "Low; poor", Standard Hebrew Lémeḫ / Lámeḫ, Tiberian Hebrew Lémeḵ / Lāmeḵ) is the name of two men in the Book of Genesis.
In the Hebrew Bible
- In Genesis 4:18-24, Lamech is the son of Methusael and a descendant of Cain. He is the first man mentioned in the Bible who has more than one wife, he has two, Adah and Zillah. By Adah he is the father of Jabal and Jubal, and by Zillah he is the father of Tubal-Cain and Naamah.
- In Genesis 5:25-26, 28-31, Lamech is the first son of Methuselah and the father of Noah. He lived to be 777 years old.
In the New Testament
- According to the Gospel of Luke 3:36, the latter Lamech is listed as an ancestor of Jesus.
