Lake Norman of Catawba is a census-designated place located in Catawba County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 4,744.
Geography
Lake Norman of Catawba is located at 35°35'6" North, 80°59'44" West (35.585092, -80.995473)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 72.0 km² (27.8 mi²). 49.5 km² (19.1 mi²) of it is land and 22.5 km² (8.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 31.25% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,744 people, 1,988 households, and 1,455 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 95.7/km² (248.0/mi²). There are 2,776 housing units at an average density of 56.0/km² (145.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.39% White, 1.31% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.44% from two or more races. 0.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,988 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.7% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% are non-families. 21.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.77.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 32.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older.
