La Joya is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,303.

The racial makeup of the city is 63.94% White, 0.18% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 33.18% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 97.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 860 households out of which 51.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.0% are married couples living together, 18.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 10.9% are non-families. 9.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.84 and the average family size is 4.10.
