La Center is a city located in Ballard County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,038.

La Center is located at 37°4'29" North, 88°58'30" West (37.074782, -88.975091)Template:GR.
It is geographically important because of its proximity to the confluence of the Ohio river and the Mississippi_river.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
History
In 1908 the town was declared to be the Center of the Universe by Land developer Stoke T Payne.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,038 people, 419 households, and 261 families residing in the city. The population density is 520.5/km² (1,351.0/mi²). There are 492 housing units at an average density of 246.7/km² (640.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.40% White, 9.06% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 419 households out of which 29.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 35.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.90.
In the city the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 26.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 80.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 71.0 males.
