Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Template:Infobox Movie

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a Bollywood movie, released in India and the United Kingdom on October 16, 1998.

The movie is a romance, with Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan resuming their pairing from the earlier blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Rani Mukherji plays the third component of the movie's love triangle. Salman Khan also has a non-credited role. The plot is melodramatic but effective, starting with a flashback to earlier, happier times, and then resuming to seven years later, when a young girl played by Sana Saeed works to sort out everybody's relationships. The names of both the little girl and Kajol are Anjali.

The movie was the directorial debut of Karan Johar, who also wrote the script. He later re-used many elements of this movie to make Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. The movie was extremely successful in India, making excellent box-office take, and going on to win most of the major awards at 1999's Filmfare Award ceremony.

While this movie bucked the trend of NRI characters or using specifically foreign locales, the video for the title song was filmed in Glen Coe, Scotland.

The title Kuch Kuch Hota Hai may be translated to "Something is Happening," and marketing often abbreviates the title to KKHH.

Synopsis

The very popular Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and tomboy Anjali (Kajol) are best friends in St. Xavier college. Both of them are romantically interested in each other, but whenever Rahul tries to tell Anjali, she dismisses his advances as jokes, so he starts looking elsewhere.

When the principal's (Anupam Kher) daughter Tina (Rani Mukherji) starts to attend their college, the duo becomes a trio -- at least, this is how Anjali sees it; Rahul however falls in love with the beautiful, sophisticated and very femine Tina. Anjali finally gathers all her courage to tell Rahul about her feelings for him, when he informs her of his feelings for Tina. Anjali is devasted and leaves college to never see Rahul again.

Tina and Rahul marry, but Tina dies during childbirth, leaving eight letters to her newborn daughter (Sana Saeed), who is also called Anjali. Anjali jr. opens one letter each year, the last one telling her about Rahul's and Anjali's relationship: her mother knew that although she married Rahul and became his wife and friend, she never became his best friend and true love, so she sends Anjali jr. to re-unite Rahul and Anjali.

Anjali jr. recruits her grandparents and searches for her older namesake. After many troubles, Anjali jr. makes her father and her namesake meet again and old feelings re-surface. Rahul easily falls in love with Anjali who changed from the tomboy to a passionate, elegant woman.

The problem is: now she is engaged to Aman (Salman Khan). Aman however has the needed insight to see what is going on -- the engagement is cancelled and after Rahul's profession of love, he and Anjali get married.
