Geography
In Kristianstad is the lowest point in the country, 2.41 meters below surface. Damns and pumps are in function to protect the city from floods from the river Helgeån and the lake Hammarsjön.
History
The city was founded in 1604 by the Danish king Christian IV who at the time ruled over entire Terra Scania. The city arms depict the King's insignia, the number "4".
The city arms were only slightly modified at the hostile Swedish takeover consecrated at the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658 whereby entire Terra Scania came in the possession of Sweden. Ironically Kristianstad is thereby the only city in the world with the insignia of a foreign monarch.
Industry
Absolut Vodka, owned by V&S Group, is produced by the town of Åhus located in the municipality.
Kristianstad for a long time was the main military seat in Scania boosting military camps and trainings. After the reforms in 1990's much of it has been closed.
