Kneiphof
|
Kneiphof (Polish Knipawa) is the name of one of the three cities that constituted the city of Königsberg in the Monastic State of the Teutonic Knights . As did many other Prussian cities it rebelled against Teutonic Order in 1454 and acknowledged the overlordship of Polish King, but without help from Poland, it surrendered. Eventually it became a part of Ducal Prussia.
The last Prussian city loyal to the Polish king, Knipawa, was taken after a long siege by Teutonic Knights commanded by Heinrich Reuss von Plauen (elder) on June 14, 1455.
