Kino's Journey
|
Kino's Journey: the Beautiful World or Kino no Tabi is a light novel serialized in the Dengeki hp magazine, with 8 tankōbon volumes and continuing, it has been available in Japanese and Korean. The light novel has been turned into a Japanese anime television show. Released in 2003 by Genco, it consists of 13 episodes (as well as a 12 minute long trailer, "Episode 0"); it has since been translated into English and released in the U.S. by ADV Films.
In the show, the protagonist, Kino, moves through a mostly idyllic world that is dominated by serene landscapes and small, independent countries with unique cultures. Kino is accompanied by a talking motorrad (a motorbike) named Hermes. Kino carries and frequently practices drawing a persuader and a revolver (guns), and also has a variety of other weapons including knives.
Technology in this world exists, sometimes to the level of science fiction, although anachronisms are common (for example, the same land that has talking robots also appears to have phonographs). The level of technology also varies from country to country. The world is not heavily magical (the only "magical" elements include land that moves, a talking motorrad, and a possibly talking dog), although it has a certain fairy-tale quality.
