Mrs. King was extremely instrumental in helping develop the city into a center of agriculture, oil and banking in the South Texas region. She donated land for Catholic, Baptist, and Episcopal churches and for what is now Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Kingsville's economy, like much of South Texas, is extremely dependent on agriculture, particularly cattle and citrus.
