Kinesis is a movement or activity of a cell or an organism in response to a stimulus such as light. Such movement can be in any direction and its rate depends on the intensity of stimulation. From Greek kinesis, movement, motion from kinein to move. See Taxis.
Musicology
Kinesis is a rock band from Bolton, England. The group formed in September 2000. Their first recording was the five track, self-released EP "The Flowers Are Dead", which was followed up by a mini-album entitled "Worship Yourself". They released their first full-length album "Handshakes For Bullets" in September 2003 on Independiente. The band recently toured the UK supporting Linkin Park and Lostprophets.
Kinesis are often compared to the Manic Street Preachers, because of their politically minded lyrics, and musical style. Their first album covered subjects such as NAFTA, Euthanasia, as well as their views on the social habits of the British people, especially the younger generation to which they belong.
The band lineup incudes:
- Michael Bromley (Vocals, Guitar)
- Conor McGloin (Guitar)
- Tom Marshall (Bass guitar, Vocals)
- Neil Chow (Drums)
The band parted with their record label, Independiente, in mid-2004, but they have made their second full-length album by themselves, and it is expected in late 2004, or early 2005.
