Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (君が望む永遠, literally The Eternity You Wish for in English, abbreviated as Kiminozo in Japan, KGNE by fansubbers) was a ren'ai game released in 2001 for the PC by Age. It was later ported to the Sega Dreamcast (by Alchemist) and PlayStation 2 (by Princess Soft), and turned into a 14-episode TV anime that ran from October 5, 2003 to January 4, 2004 (with erotic elements removed).

A sequel/spinoff series of OAVs is made, called Akane Maniax, which stars Haruka's younger sister Akane. Additionally, at least two more games based on this, Muv-Luv and Space Temple was made

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is a romance story, somewhat akin to a soap opera. The beginning of the story is of four high school friends, Takayuki Narumi, Haruka Suzumiya, Mitsuki Hayase and Shinji Taira. Mitsuki sets Takayuki up with the shy Haruka and they begin to date each other.

One day, Takayuki is running late on his way to meet up with Haruka. This turns into tragedy as Haruka is involved in a very serious automobile accident, being put in a coma. This puts Takayuki into a serious depression (by feeling that his lack of promptness caused the situation). As time progresses, Takayuki grows worse and worse. Mitsuki begins to take care of him because she has feelings for him which she always kept hidden. Eventually they have sex and enter a relationship, living together in Takayuki's small apartment.

Then, one day, three years later, Haruka awakes from her coma, oblivious to the changes of the previous three years. The doctors ask that she be kept uninformed of the changes in order to protect her fragile psyche.

Characters

Takayuki Narumi (鳴海 孝之) - The lead protagonist. During the story, he works at a family restaurant after having receded in his studies due to Haruka's accident. In Haruka's absence, he begins to develop a relationship with Mitsuki. Takayuki has always felt himself to be responsible for Haruka's accident (and as such the cause of his depression), as his lateness on that faithful day contributed to Haruka being at the site of the accident.

Haruka Suzumiya (涼宮 遙) - A shy, feminine girl who is friends with Mitsuki and introduced by her to Takayuki, where they fall in love with each other. She is involved in a major automobile accident and ends up in a coma for three years.

Mitsuki Hayase (早瀬 水月) - Mitsuki is friends with both Takayuki and Haruka, but secretly she loves Takayuki. In high school, she was a strong swimmer and tomboy, but shortly after Takayuki and Haruka's relationship began to develop, she grew distant and decides to quit, eventually leaving the swimming world altogether. She throws herself at him when he fails to climb out of his depression, and reveals her feelings for him. Mitsuki is well-meaning, but suppresses her feelings, allowing them to bottle up and explode in dangerous ways. Mitsuki also believes that she is responsible for her friend's accident, as she was the main reason for why Takayuki was late for his date.

Akane Suzumiya (涼宮 茜) - Haruka's younger sister. Initially treats both Takayuki and Mitsuki like older siblings until she finds out they've been sleeping together behind Haruka's back. Dotingly watches out for her comatose sister, whom she visits every day. She, like Mitsuki, is a powerful swimmer in her own right, but feels as if she can never catch up to Mitsuki. Her intense hatred towards Mitsuki after the accident can be contributed to the feeling of personal betrayal by someone she considers an idol for throwing away her (Mitsuki's) talent and dreams as well as Mitsuki's betrayal of her sister by sleeping with Takayuki.

Shinji Taira (平 慎二) - Friends with Takayuki, Haruka and Mitsuki in high school, he drifts off from the group after graduation. Becomes an important character towards the end of the series, and very likely had a crush on Mitsuki.

Ayu Daikuuji (大空寺 あゆ) and Mayu Tamano(玉野 まゆ) (AyuAyu and MayuMayu) - Two waitresses who work at the same family restaurant as Takayuki. Ayu is the surly daughter of an executive of the restaurant (the only reason she keeps her job) and Mayu is a soft-spoken but well-meaning klutz. While in the game they served as one of the mainly love interest, here they provide the only comic relief for this otherwise serious series.
