Kilauea is a census-designated place located in Kauai County, Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,092.

Kilauea is located at 22°12'40" North, 159°24'35" West (22.211103, -159.409609)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.66% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,092 people, 692 households, and 519 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 538.5/km² (1,395.0/mi²). There are 743 housing units at an average density of 191.2/km² (495.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 47.80% White, 0.67% African American, 0.57% Native American, 26.58% Asian, 6.21% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 17.11% from two or more races. 7.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 692 households out of which 43.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 16.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% are non-families. 19.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.02 and the average family size is 3.42.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,313, and the median income for a family is $48,824. Males have a median income of $30,089 versus $24,107 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,184. 12.4% of the population and 10.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
