Khaled Mardam-Bey

Khaled Mardam-Bey (born March 19, 1968) is the creator of mIRC, an IRC client.
He was born in Amman, Jordan, to a Syrian father and a Palestinian mother, and currently resides in London, England.
Private life
Before developing mIRC he was studying for a Master's Degree in Cognitive Science (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/cognitive-science/) at an unknown university. This was not completed. He is a vegetarian and enjoys chess and reading. He also has a high interest in Palestinian poetry, Artificial Intelligence and the political disputes involving Palestine and gives his solution (http://www.mirc.com/khaled/palestine.html) for this on his website. He is currently studying for a Master's Degree in Development and Environmental studies.
Other than this very little is known about Khaled, he chooses to keep his private life separate from the Internet where he is almost exclusively known by users of IRC and refuses interviews.
mIRC
Khaled is known by many people over the globe as the creator of mIRC. He decided to create it as WinIRC, the Windows client of the time, missed some vital features. After this he continued due to the challenge and the fact people appreciated his work. mIRC is regularly referred to as a personal project and yet also the way Khaled makes a living - it costs $20 to register it after the evaluation period.
mIRC has not been updated since 7th July 2004 but this may be due to the time consuming nature of completing a Master's Degree (and is also the most likely reason) and not because the project has been abandoned.
