Katrineholm Municipality

Katrineholm Muncipality is a Municipality in Södermanland County, in central Sweden, in which the City of Katrineholm is located. The municipality covers an area of 1018.5 km² and has a total population of 32370. The population density of the community is 32 inhabitants per km². The city has a population of 22,500.
The name Katrineholm comes from a ducal residence with this name, after Catherina Gyllenhorn who lived there.
The city of Katrineholm was founded as a rail way junction on the main eastern line between the two largest cities in Sweden, Stockholm and Gothenburg, which was established in 1883. A few years later, the main northern line also came to be located through Katrineholm, giving it an important location.
In 1917 it got its city rights, and had then a population of 6,000. Today it has a strong industrial section.
Prime Minister Göran Persson was formerly head of the municipal government in Katrineholm.
