Karl Theodor von Dalberg

Karl Theodor von Dalberg (8 February 1744 - 10 February 1817) was a close ally of Napoleon I and served in a variety of important positions during his career.
Born in Mannheim, Dalberg was a government representative of Kurmainz in Erfurt from 1772 to 1802 before allying himself to Napoleon, who installed him as Bishop of Konstanz, the Archbishop of Mainz and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire. He would also gain the titles of Grand Duke of Frankfurt, the Primate of Germany and, in 1806, the President (and Prince Primate) of the Confederation of the Rhine.
The downfall of the first Napoleonic Empire in 1814 led to Dalberg's own political demise. Dalberg retired to Regensburg where he died in 1817. Template:Reli-bio-stubde:Karl Theodor von Dalberg nl:Karl Theodor von Dalberg
