Karen Armstrong

Karen Armstrong is an author, feminist and expert on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. From 1962 to 1969 she was a nun in the British convent The Society of the Holy Child Jesus. After leaving the convent, she wrote Through the Narrow Gate in 1982, which described the restricted and narrow life of the convent (and earned her the enmity of many British Catholics). Afterwards she earned a degree from Oxford University and has since become a prolific and acclaimed writer on subjects touching on all of the three major monotheistic religions. Although some scholars have attacked her writings for having a bias against Christianity. In 1999, the Islamic Center of Southern California honored Armstrong for promoting understanding among faiths.
