Jure Franko

Jure Franko, born on March 28, 1962, is a Slovenian alpine skier.
Jure Franko was born in Nova Gorica. His best performances in giant slalom and super G were shown in the 1983/84 season. On February 14, 1984 at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, he was at the 4th position after the first leg of the giant slalom. He had the fastest time of the second leg and only Max Julen from Switzerland had enough advantage to have better overall result than him. This silver medal was Slovenia's and Yugoslavia's first Winter Olympics medal and Jure became very popular in then Yugoslav Sarajevo (the popular saying in Sarajevo was "Volimo Jureta više od bureka" - "We like Jure more than burek") and the whole Yugoslavia. In the world cup he wasn't as successful as some of his team mates. He won 3 top three podiums for three 3rd positions, beside that he was 23 times in top ten and additionally 11 times among top 15. He quitted skiing after the 1984/85 season.
